‘Twomey draws his study out in an attempt to understand Dublin’s culture and society in the early eighteenth century by reference to debates in parliament, the decisions of the corporation and the activities of parish vestries. Unlike many other cities, the social and cultural history of Dublin has largely been neglected and this study is valuable in filling in some of the gaps', Books Ireland.
