This seventh volume in the Irish Musical Studies Series examines the development of art music in Ireland from different perspectives. The book includes historical assessments of genre in Irish music, analyses of individual composers and compositions, and essays in cultural history.
Gareth Cox and Axel Klein have published extensively on Irish music and are contributors to the New Grove and Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart. Cox is the author of Anton Weberns Studienzeit (Frankfurt, 1991) and Klein is the author of Irish Classical Recordings – A Discography of Irish Art Music (Westport CT, 2001). They are also co-editors of a forthcoming book on the life and music of Brian Boydell.
