This volume comprises the proceedings of the fifth international colloquium on Ireland and Europe in the early Middle Ages held under the joint auspices of Konstanz University and University College Dublin. The conference took place at the University of Konstanz on 16–20 March 1998.
The book presents contributions by scholars from 10 countries, focusing on the role of Ireland in the development of the intellectual and cultural life of Europe. Separate sections on contexts, texts, biblica, manuscripts, laws and monastica explore the theme of texts and transmissions.
