This study examines the circumstances of the Irish parliament from the late 17th century to the middle of the 18th. The position of Ireland regarding the crown, and the relationship of the Irish and English parliaments are examined in detail.
Beginning with an assessment of the impact of the Williamite war and the Hanoverian Accession on Ireland, continuing through the troubled circumstances of Irish politics in the 18th century until the achievement of stability in the 1730s, Dr McNally focuses on the links between the lord lieutenant, his parliamentary managers (known as 'undertakers') and the Irish Parliament.
Patrick McNally, a graduate of Queen's University, Belfast, lectures in history at Worcester College of Higher Education.
