April 2010 marks the fortieth anniversary of the first board meeting of our Press. We would like to thank all those who have purchased Four Courts Press books over the years, and we look forward to your continuing support. Congratulations to poet Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, winner of the 2010 Canada-based Griffin Poetry Prize for her newest collection, The Sun-fish. The prestigious award was announced on 3 June in Toronto, where her collection was chosen from almost 400 entries across 12 countries. Ní Chuilleanáin has published several titles with Four Courts Press, including The Wilde Legacy (2003), Translation and Censorship (2008, co-edited with Cormac Ó Cuilleanáin & David Parris) and the forthcoming Heresy and Orthodoxy in early English literature, 1350-1680 (co-edited with John Flood).

Traditional Irish musician Joe Holmes will be the subject of two features on John Bowman’s RTÉ radio show. The 10-minute segments, airing on Sunday 25th July and Sunday 1st August, will also feature new FCP publication Joe Holmes – Here I Am Amongst You: Songs, Music and Traditions of an Ulsterman on his RTÉ radio show. Bowman’s show runs on Sunday mornings at 8.10am on RTÉ Radio 1 and can also be heard online here.

As part of the 2010 ‘Hill of Tara’ Lecture Series Dr Michael Potterton, the co-editor of Uncovering Medieval Trim,  will present Tara c.1210: ‘a soil gnawed by ploughs at 8.00pm on Wednesday 28 July in the Hill of Tara Visitors’ Centre.

Book Launches

Upcoming Book Launches

On Wednesday 29 September 2010 a launch will be held for 1972 and the Ulster Troubles by Alan F. Parkinson. The event will take place at 3.30 p.m. in London South Bank University's New building, K2, in Keyworth Street at the Elephant and Castle in London. An in-depth look at the events of 1972, this is a timely publication with the appearance of the Saville Report in June 2010.

A reception celebrating the publication Joe Holmes – Here I Am Amongst You will be held on Thursday 7 October 2010 in Belfast, in McMordie Hall in Queen’s University. Poet Ciaran Carson will host the event, and poet Michael Longley will launch the book. More details to follow.

A second reception will be held in Dublin in celebration Len Graham's Joe Holmes - Here I Am Amongst You on Friday 22 October at 7.00pm in the Góilín Traditional Singer's Club, Teacher's Club, 36 Parnell Square, Dublin. Nicholas Carolan will launch the book; time TBA.
