About Four Courts Press
Four Courts Press was founded in 1970 by Michael Adams (see below) as a small press.From 1992, Four Courts Press expanded rapidly from its theology base, first into Celtic and Medieval Studies and Ecclesiastical History, and then into Modern History, Art, Literature and Law.
The Press publishes some 50 titles a year. At present there are over 500 titles in print. Our books are available worldwide, either directly via our website or through an extensive chain of bookstores, libraries, and book wholesalers.

Four Courts Press is a company incorporated in Ireland with its registered office at 7 Malpas Street, near Dublin's historic Blackpitts area.

Michael Adams (1937-2009)
A native of Co. Fermanagh, and a graduate of Queen’s University, Belfast, and the University of Navarre, Pamplona, Michael’s first significant involvement in publishing was with Irish University Press. He was also instrumental in setting up Irish Academic Press, where he served as managing director until 1995. Michael was the author of Censorship: the Irish experience (the subject of his PhD thesis), as well as two short books on religion. In recognition of his contribution to academic studies in Ireland, Trinity College, Dublin awarded him an honorary doctorate in Letters in 2005. The citation read: ‘It is impossible to imagine the intellectual life of Ireland without Four Courts Press, our most prestigious academic publisher’.
