Book Launch: An Insular Odyssey

Thursday 7 December | The Long Room of the Old Library, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin 2

Four Courts Press and the Library of Trinity College Dublin are pleased to launch An Insular Odyssey: manuscript culture in Early Christian Ireland and beyond in the glorious surroundings of the Long Room, the Old Library, Trinity College Dublin. Edited by Rachel Moss, Felicity O’Mahony and Jane Maxwell, the book presents new research on Insular manuscripts and marks the retirement of Trinity's eminent scholar of Insular manuscripts, Dr Bernard Meehan. John Banville will officially launch the book.

About the book:
Between the seventh and twelfth centuries, a distinctive form of script and illumination predominated in the manuscripts produced in the milieu of the Irish church. Although associated principally with Britain and Ireland, Ireland’s reputation for learning and the missionary activity associated with Irish foundations mean that today Insular texts are found in library collections across the Continent and beyond. This book examines Irish manuscript culture from a broad range of perspectives.
