Studies in insular language and literature
Helen Conrad-O'Briain Anne-Marie D'Arcy & John Scattergood editors
Text and Gloss casts a wide net across the study and creation of texts and the appropriation and application of Mediterranean culture in Anglo-Saxon England and early Christian Ireland. The sum of its parts is a sense of the lively scholarship and creativity of the so-called Insular dark ages. The studies, while largely literary and linguistic in character, connect texts with archaeology, theology, women’s studies and historical psychology.
